US India Energy Storage Task Force (ESTF)
Vision
The ESTF will work to advance the goals of the US-India Strategic Clean Energy Partnership (SCEP), including to develop and deploy emerging clean energy technologies to decarbonize the energy sector.
Mission
The ESTF’s objective is to facilitate an ongoing and meaningful dialogue among US and Indian government officials, industry representatives, and other stakeholders to scale up and accelerate the deployment of Energy Storage technologies.
Working Groups
Technology
This working group will provide a joint platform to discuss advancements in technologies, functional and technical requirements of energy storage for various applications, technology performance etc. This group will look at both currently commercial technologies as well as emerging technologies for long duration energy storage.Market Design, Business Models and Projects
This working group will exchange learnings from existing and planned policy and regulatory changes, energy storage projects, discuss various business models and financing structures. This group will also look into potential barriers for large scale deployments of projects, review the timelines and reasons for delays/cancellations etc. This group shall be proposing possible solutions to avoid future delays and uncertainty in large scale deployments for future projects.Manufacturing and Supply Chain
This working group will work towards exploring collaborations for supporting the advanced battery manufacturing ecosystem development in US and India to leverage synergies. This group will also look to identify and highlight complementary strengths to address potential barriers in large scale manufacturing and supply chain collaborations.R&D, Skill Development
This Working Group would enable the development of innovative and path-breaking technologies. This working group will also focus on Sharing insights from US DoE initiatives like ARPAe for R&D, energy storage testing platform / test beds, energy storage demonstration project learning. This group will also address the skill gaps and propose cross-country skill development programs that will allow researchers and scientists to amplify skill sets at each other’s labs.Finance
This working group will link the financial services sector with the energy storage ecosystem to work on innovative financing models to help reduce capital costs for energy storage projects. This group will work with a broader coalition as needed.Safety, Codes and Standards
The US DOE and GOI MoP will share relevant information across the thematic areas regarding safety, codes and standards, lessons learned and best practices.Co-chair
