Overview
Hydrogen produced by renewable energy sources (known as "Green Hydrogen") can be used to reduce emissions in multiple applications, from steel production to fuel cells for electric propulsion. But the switch to a hydrogen-based economy has multiple technological and economic challenges: cost-competitive production, secure transportation, and storage, efficient use in operation. In addition, development of fuel cell and electrolyzer applications require simulation models of adequate fidelity. These models enable you to perform design space exploration, analyze design tradeoffs, and help inform control systems development.

Overview
Production of green hydrogen by electrolysis is identified as an enabler for electrified transportation and fossil-free industrial processes. Electric power harvested from renewable energy sources (wind, solar) is converted into hydrogen gas. Despite the undoubted potential, planning, design and operation of electrolysis plants present several challenges. Join this MathWorks presentation to discover how physical system simulation can empower R&D engineering tasks ranging from performance analyses and controls development to techno-economic studies and deployment.
Highlights
- Physical multi-domain modeling and simulation
- Trade-off model fidelity versus simulation objective
- Micro-grid integration and techno-economic analysis
- Power electronics control design
- Options for sharing models such as Apps, FMU

Overview
Hydrogen Fuel Cells appear as an attractive alternative to traditional fossil fuel engines in freight and passenger transport systems (marine, heavy-duty, railroad, off-road, aerospace) thanks to their high energy density. However, fuel cells are a part of a complex system including batteries, power converters, electrical machinery, and cooling equipment. Join this MathWorks presentation to uncover how Model-Based Design helps to solve challenges such as system sizing, performance trade-off analysis and concept development while ensuring lowest time-to-market and product safety.
Highlights
- Multi-stack fuel cells and battery propulsion system
- Energy management design
- Supervisory logic and state machine development
- Embedded code generation
- Real-time testing and prototyping
