WORKING GROUPS

Three working groups on Business, Policy and Technology to discuss and gather inputs on various state & central government policies, tenders and new technologies.

IESA, over years has been working closely with MNRE, MoP, MHI, CERC, NITI, BIS etc. for creating a robust energy infrastructure to enable adoption of advanced storage technologies in India.

We understand it is critical to have feedback from all stakeholders in the value chain before proposing/ recommending for a technology, policy update or financial incentive. Keeping this in mind, IESA conceptualized of 3 Working Groups exclusively for our members., namely:

  • Policy Working Group
  • Technology Working Group and
  • Business Working Group

The objective of the working groups is to gather industry voice through discussions and meetings for any technology/ policy/ financial recommendation to Government

The Working Groups meet once a month and discuss on current affairs and developments. The platform is also utilized to collate feedback on any draft policy, projection or documentation.

Policy Working Group

Objective:

IESA Policy Working Group is an initiative by IESA for its member companies to support government bodies through discussion and contribution to create a robust energy storage policy for India.

Activities:

IESA along with its members has been continuously giving recommendations and feedback to various government bodies on their regulations and policy initiatives regarding energy storage. With the help of this group we been actively working with MNRE, MoP, MHI, Indian Railways, CERC, CEA, POSOCO, NITI Aayog, DST, Invest India and BIS, on creating a robust energy infrastructure to enable adoption of advanced energy storage technologies in India.

Previous Works:

  • Support to MNRE & USAID in creating an Energy Storage Roadmap for India
  • Joined committee on “energy storage and hybrids” formed by MNRE
  • Participated in creation and launch of IRENA Energy Storage Roadmap
  • Submitted paper to NITI Aayog on advanced energy storage manufacturing policy
  • Stakeholders consultation for CERC staff paper on Energy storage in association with FICCI for CERC and submitted comments to CERC
  • Joined EES Sectional Committee by BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards)

Member Participation:

The policy working group meetings in the previous years have helped IESA make better representation to the government stakeholders on various issues.

Meeting Frequency:

The policy working group meetings are scheduled every month second Tuesday.

Technology Working Group

The energy storage space is evolving at a tremendous pace and covers a wide variety of application areas ranging from Electric Vehicles and personal electronics to renewable integration and grid applications. The Technology Working group is created to encourage discussions among key stakeholders regarding the various technical issues underlying the energy storage industry.

Activities:

The discussions are focussed on the following topics:

  1. Applications Vs Technology: Discussion on functional and technical requirements of energy storage for various applications - electric vehicles, renewable integration, wind smoothing, backup applications, diesel replacement etc.
  2. Technology Performance: Discussion on common metrics of performance for energy storage systems (ESS), associated test protocols, and reference duty cycles to evaluate various energy storage technologies for applications of interest.
  3. Safety Evaluation and standards Protocol: Discussion to increase awareness in the community regarding safety related information and standard protocols for testing of ESS systems at multiple levels namely cell, battery, stack, battery management and overall system level.
  4. Innovations and Advanced Technological Development: Discussions to remain abreast with cutting edge technologies which will shape the future of energy storage space.

Member Participation:

One representative from each IESA member company participates in the meetings. We encourage member companies to nominate members to be a part of these discussions.
