The future of clean mobility is electric, and battery swapping is one of the solutions for mass adoption of electric vehicle. The concept of battery swapping essentially enables reduced wait time for charging and significantly lower up-front cost for the vehcile (since it would be sold without the battery). But, It involves various challenges in adoption. There are both success and failure stories that are in the early adoption of swapping solutions by Gogoro Network, BAIC and the better place model.  The business of battery swapping heavily relies on being able to predict, manage, and extend battery life. It also involves other external factors like electricity utilities, OEM’s, government regulations and standards.
IESA is closely working with 100+ stakeholders in energy storage and electric vehicle space since 2012. IESA launched the Moving Onwards Vehicle Electrification (MOVE) Initiative in 2017 to build a robust ecosystem for EV manufacturing & adoption. IESA is working with various stakeholders in the mobility sector to address barriers and focus on the aspects related to batteries for EVs and charging infrastructure. IESA hear counter views & fragmented views on the adoption of battery swapping in India. We understand this is the appropriate time to decide and plan the future action plan. In this online brainstorming meeting, IESA will create the Industry paper & policy document considering the various views and will submit to government officials for considerations and industry adoptions.
