Ashok Leyland partners with IIT Madras to pursue development of Electric Vehicles

The ministry of power and renewable energy is working on a roadmap to produce and sell only electric vehicles in India by 2030. Chennai is known as the Detroit of India due to its vast automobile sector and as the nation embarks on this ambitious mission, the automobile sector in the city is expected to undergo dynamic changes.

Various auto part and vehicle manufacturers are drawing up plans to cater to the needs of the nation in a few years and are in the early planning stages of electrification.

Chennai,being the automobile hub of India, is seeing a lot of research and development on this front. Ashok Leyland has partnered with IIT Madras and is working on developing auto parts specially for electric vehicles and strengthening battery engineering.

With this partnership, IIT Madras becomes the first institution to be pioneering an initiative to develop the electric mobility ecosystem in India with industry participation. The prestigious institute’s Centre of Battery Engineering (CoBE) will be sponsored by Ashok Leyland.
