Going by the looks of the electric vehicle of the Tata Nano, it is obvious that there are no changes in design from the standard petrol variant. However, the ground clearance is significantly lower than even the GenX Nano AMT, known for the lowest ground clearance among all Nano variants. Hence, the space between the wheel arch and the wheel too is considerably minimal. The heavy lithium batteries required to power the vehicle might have taken a toll on the suspension, which looks highly compressed.
Tata Motors has also done a lot of center of gravity balancing act with the Tata Nano EV, owing to the heavy lithium batteries. The Indian carmaker may also have to balance the center of gravity with the front and the rear portions. The heavy lithium battery will likely find place in the front, on the floor of the vehicle to achieve better center of gravity. The electric motor will likely go on the back of the vehicle to retain its usual rear wheel drive configuration.
The new Tata Nano Electric Vehicle, if launched, can benefit out of Delhi’s diesel ban, which other states may adapt to, besides qualifying subsidies from the Central Government as part of its National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020.
Previously, showcased as a concept to the world at the Geneva 2010 Motor Show, the Tata Nano Electric Variant had super polymer lithium-ion batteries that showed a range of 160 kmph and acceleration from 0 to 60 kmph in less than 10 seconds. If launched, the new Tata Nano could rival the Mahindra e2o. It may also be preferred in the cities for running quick errands within the cities.
