Bangladesh Clean Energy Summit 2019

Bangladesh, with its economy steadily growing at an annual rate of above 7%, is fast transposing to a large energy consuming country in the South Asia region. HSBC report titled “The World in 2030: Our long term projections for 75 countries,” says Bangladesh is poised to become the 26th largest economy in the world by 2030 from the current 42nd position. The real GDP growth of Bangladesh is poised to be 7.1% per year up to 2030 and the country will be a $700 billion economy in 2030 from the current $300 billion.

Bangladesh’s economy is driven largely by exports from the development of its textile & garments industry. Therefore, private sector engagement and investment is central to helping Bangladesh achieve its development objectives. Moreover, the Climate Change Vulnerability Index ranks Bangladesh as most vulnerable country to the impacts of climate change. In this scenario, government aims to catalyze private sector investment through policies such as the incentivization of private lending to enterprises that invest in green technologies and financing of decentralized climate-friendly energy programs.

Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), a government-owned non-banking financial institution, located in Dhaka, Bangladesh is acting as a change agent in this context. IDCOL is playing a major role in developing and financing infrastructure, renewable energy and energy efficient projects in Bangladesh. In 2016, it was awarded the ‘United Nations Momentum for Change Award’.

To further take this momentum forward, IDCOL is organizing the “Bangladesh Clean Energy Summit” on 10th & 11th March 2019 at ‘Bangabandhu International Conference Centre’ in Dhaka. This Summit is a one-stop technology and business marketplace to facilitate match-making among industry and solutions providers. The Summit will be a global platform for domestic and international players to showcase clean and environment-friendly technologies and solutions. The summit will enable the participants and stakeholders to exchange knowledge, cutting edge ideas, insights and international best practices.
